Most of you have or have seen on the back window of a camper shell the shocks that hold up the back window. Eventually they start to wear out and the weight of the window starts to overcome them. It will start to fall down and then it comes to the point that won’t stay up at all. That happened to me and after being hit in the head a couple of times my red neck ingenuity kicked in. I found the perfect stick. It was the perfect length and fit just right in the crack between the truck and the tailgate. It had a little fork at the top that held up the window like it was grown just for this purpose. I used it for months.

Every time I popped it out I got some crack about how red neck I was. After a while I just refused to replace the shocks on principle. It worked and it was free.

Yesterday I finally gave in and bought the shocks. So I guess that makes me just a little less Red neck, but only a little. I still have the stick just in case. It’s perfect!

Lady Josephine

Today we are saddened by the loss of our friend and companion. Josie was much more than a dog. She was a member of our family and she brought so much joy to our lives. We have so many memories of her. She spent her last night in bed with Megan and her last breath was with the smell of a bird in her mouth.

We know she will be hunting forever with some of our other friends.

She was a true hunter through and through and we will forever miss her.

 Rest in peace sweet girl!

After spending some time here in our started dog program, Bonnie is now home  in Texas, ready to spend time with her people for the Holidays.

A year ago I made a post about Ali and Emma. The two of them had started running in agility trials. This was a venue I really didn’t have much knowledge of, and still don’t.

In my last post, Ali and Emma were showing great promise and hope for their future together in agility.

It looks like they have put it all together. Over the last year they have earned 4 AKC Titles. NAJ, NJP, NF, and OAJ.

Ali and her now 4 year old Izzie pup, Emma are turning heads where ever they go.

 Emma shows great speed and focus as you can see in the picture below.

 We are going to see an agility competition for the first time this afternoon. It will be held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, CO.  We wish Ali & Emma the best of luck. I am going to try to shoot some video of this event. If it comes out I will put it up in a day or two.

(UPDATE)    We had a great time watching Ali & Emma. They just added a 5th title to their impressive list. (NA)  Check them out in the video on the right. It’s pretty amazing what they do!

Two years ago I started a project that was to last a year. In October of 2009 born was a pup that we had been planning for years. We named her Breeze. The project was to take one year and turn her in to a bird finding machine. This is what she was genetically bred for.

At the end of the year she and I were to finish the project with a wild bird hunt in Kansas.

Everything was going well and at 6 months old she was out on the preserves hunting with our guide team that has been led by her mom and dad for years. By the end of October of 2010 she had seen and been on many liberated birds. Maybe as many as a hundred. We were ready to finish our journey. With just a few weeks away from the opening of pheasant season in Kansas we had an accident. Breeze had come into heat and we didn’t notice. Long story short she was accidently bred and became pregnant. For the safety of her and the pups it was decided that she would stay behind and not go to the trip to Kansas.

Fast forward to opening weekend in Kansas November 12^th and 13^th 2011.

Breeze and I are finally on our hunt. A hunt that had been a year in the making and then had been postponed for another year.

Breeze had been working hard all weekend and as a part of the team had seen many birds and as far as wild birds in Kansas go, we had a pretty successful weekend.

Sunday afternoon we were working our last field. Dogs were scattered and Breeze was just in front of me quartering back and forth. Her nose was stuck to the ground and her tail was going a mile a minute. I knew she was on to a bird. Suddenly she locks. A picture perfect point. I hustled up to her thinking this is it. This is the bird she and I had worked for. As I approached the bird flushed. YES! It was a cock. I took the shot, the bird fell and Breeze ran out, retrieved the bird and brought it straight back to me.

There was no doubt. This was her point, her bird and her retrieve. Any bird would have been great at that time, but she brought back a cock that was a third year bird or better. 7/8 of an inch spurs and a 21 inch tail.
