You met Jake almost 2 months ago. Here from Grand Junction, he is a 08′ Izzie puppy. He is now 2/3 of the way through our Started Dog Program and now a lot of training is coming together. Today he was pointing his first birds out in the traps. We are really excited with how his focus has developed.  In another week and we will get him out on some quail!

 In the pic below you can see how intense he is.

  We’re off to Idaho. First stop is Boise. We’ll visit some family and hang there for a few days. A stop at Cabala’s, Boise is always a must for me. I will most likely make my way over to Sportsman’s Warehouse too!  Then it’s off to Lewiston. Our friends Scott and Lori are getting married and then it’s down to the Snake River for 3 days of camping and fishing. We will be staying with our friends, Captain Kev and Pam this trip! We’re looking forward to a fun time and meeting up with all the RVK dogs that are now living in Lewiston. 

On the way back we will stop in Utah to see our friend Jon from Gundogbreeders.com to pick up some training pigeons.

This is Ruby and Canyon. Both are Rio puppies from different litters. Ruby is a sister of Breeze and Canyon is from a litter with Timber. They are looking to be a formidable bird hunting team. They own the Kempster’s in Lewiston Idaho.

Next week she will be just 6 months old.  She has been out several times now on liberated birds and is doing well. We’ll spend the summer reinforcing everything she has learned and catch a couple more released bird hunts before we head to Kansas.

I’m very excited about all she has accomplished and anticipating our hunt in the fall.

I so love this little dog.  It makes my day to watch her work!

Last Saturday Trip and Sherry came down to see how there their pup Bojo was doing. Bojo has been with us for about  two and a half months now going through our started dog program. He has been progressing well and was ready to show Trip and Sherry what he has learned.

We spent the morning out at the Box T Cowboy’s chasing down some quail.  The conditions were a little rough. High winds and a dry terrain made for tough work for the most experienced of dogs.

Despite all that, Bojo made some nice finds and held his points well. He will be with us for a couple more weeks finishing up his training and then will be ready to take on the upcoming season. We’re going to miss him and his scrappy little attitude!

Today we went out to the Chico Basin Ranch and guided a hunt for the Box T Cowboys. It was a nice 40 degree day and the quail were flying. Rio, Josie, Willow and Murphy did a great job putting up the birds. Each of them had their time to shine. They worked hard and at the end of the morning 16 quail were shot.    We came home, hosed off the mud and they were so tired they all crashed taking a well deserved nap.

The partnership will allow all the Box T customers a chance to have a guided hunt with Upland Outfitters and the RVK dogs and our customers to be able to hunt 87,000 acres. Yep! That’s not a typo.

We will also have better pricing on birds. This will translate to less expensive hunts and a reduction in bird cost for training.

The 2010 – 2011 seasons will run from September to April.

We’re looking forward to a relationship that will benefit everyone.    See you in the field!

Well I spent the last hour of the day buttoning everything up. The clouds are rolling in and I could feel the mist as I finished up the days training. The weather man says we are going to get 12 inches of snow tonight and more tomorrow. All the dogs are bedded down and the wood stove is cooking. Let it snow!

Another week has flown by. The weather has been pretty good and they say we will hit the 60’s and maybe even 70 next week.

All the training is going well. Breeze seems just like one of the gang and is ready to try her hand at a real hunt. She and Bojo continue to grow their friendship. I’m afraid when he leaves she is going to be lonely.

Kota is also doing well in his training. Although he is about done, we are continuing to just brush up on everything. He now just needs that all important field time.

It won’t be long and we will be blessed with puppies again! Lacey is due around the first of May and Izzie about the 15^th. We will have a full house. We love the puppies and it is one of the most rewarding things we do. Lacey and Murphy are a repeat breeding. The last litter was outstanding. Izzie and Timber have both produced great puppies in the past, so we are excited and expecting great things from this litter also.

We are busy expanding the kennel again. We are adding a block of outside kennels for summer. We hope to have them complete about 2 weeks. Seems like the work here never ends.  Last year’s addition of the freeze proof water line out to the kennel has been great this winter and was worth all the work to get that in. I’m still ready for spring though.

Big day tomorrow. Training and building kennels! Well I guess that’s the same as all the other days.

It’s been a while since I have been in here. It’s been very busy. The new site s up and running and starting to take shape. I am slowly getting things together and moved over.

So far I like the new format. It allows me to add things a lot faster. Let us know what you think.

My Zero to Hunt project ran into a problem. The blog site I was using won’t let me log in for some reason.  I will continue to report on Breeze’s progress here in the dog blogs.

Breeze is doing fantastic! Although a little ruff still, she will Whoa without a check cord comes to voice and whistle, is working the scent cone and pointing like a rock star. She is now almost gun broke and is working off full 12 gauge blasts. We will continue to work on the whoa command and the others. I will have her out on a hunt at the preserve before the end of the month.

I have some other dogs here for training right now and Breeze has taken a shine and made friends with Bojo.

What a great day to hunt quail! Box T Cowboys hosted there first Quail Flurry. It was a great day. The weather was nice and the quail were flying. There were morning and afternoon hunts, along with clay shooting all day. A good time was had by all.

I guided for several groups.  Murphy, Rio, Izzie, Willow, Josie and Abby, a dog just finishing our training program did a fantastic job making the hunting easy and enjoyable.
