After a year and a half, Bonnie and her family have moved back from Japan. We have been fortunate enough to have her back at RVK for some training.

Lacey & Pepper Return!

Freyja Learns To Dance!

What a great dog! She so much reminds me of her mom. (Izzie) Freyja was here for a couple of weeks to get her introduction to birds and to be gun broke.

She was a super student and accomplished all that and more. We were able to start her collar conditioning, do a little barrel training and even got her on a few birds.

We hope to see her back soon to do some more training and get her hunting.

Jake & Gil’s First Chukar Hunt

After finishing our Started Dog Program, Jake and Gil headed home Saturday to western Colorado.

Gil writes that today he and Jake had their first chukar hunt together. Jake had 5 nice solid points and that they had a great time together. Hunting companions. That’s what it is all about! Jenni and I were glad to be a part of it all.

Jake – Pointing His First Birds!

You met Jake almost 2 months ago. Here from Grand Junction, he is a 08′ Izzie puppy. He is now 2/3 of the way through our Started Dog Program and now a lot of training is coming together. Today he was pointing his first birds out in the traps. We are really excited with how his focus has developed. In another week and we will get him out on some quail!

In the pic below you can see how intense he is.

Training Day At RVK

On August 14 RVK hosted a low cost training day. The theme of the day was introduction to birds. This was an opportunity to learn the right way to introduce your dog or puppy to birds. We had a great group and all the dogs had a chance to see, smell and taste some birds. Following the class we had lunch and talked about dogs and training. A few folks stuck around to continue with a little more training. Jenni and I enjoyed the company and the day. Below are some pics from the class. We hope to host some more of these types of events again in the future.

Traveling from Grand Junction, Jake is here for our Started Dog Program. He is finishing up on his bird introduction and moving on to his gun breaking. He is doing great so far and is going to make a great hunting companion!

This is Ruby and Canyon. Both are Rio puppies from different litters. Ruby is a sister of Breeze and Canyon is from a litter with Timber. They are looking to be a formidable bird hunting team. They own the Kempster’s in Lewiston Idaho.

Spring?

It looks like spring has arrived. The temperatures have been in the 60’s and 70’s and the afternoon thunderstorms have been rolling in the last few days. We have finished up the training of a couple of dogs and they will go home this week. That’s always hard for me as I become attached to them.

Our first training pigeon of the year has hatched today. Always a sign that spring is here.

We’re gearing up for another week. We’re going to get some spring cleaning done this week and get the whelping room ready to go for Lacey. She is at day 50 of 63. We will soon have little paws running around again. Izzie puppies will follow about 2 weeks later. Puppies Galore!

All the new puppies will be gone to their new homes by the first of July. That will leave Jenni and I some free time to head to Idaho on Vacation. We will stop on the way to visit family and then up to Lewiston to see friends and share in a special time in their lives as they get married. We’re looking forward to the trip!
